George H. Allen, former Springfield industrialist who in recent years concentrated on property purchase and development, died unexpectedly at 10:10 p.m. Tuesday at Community Hospital. He was 68.
Mr. Allen owned considerable property east of Springfield, chiefly in the South Vienna and Harmony areas. He lived at Lake Sylvan Shores, a residential development he owned.
Born in Springfield October 27, 1901, Mr. Allen attended Wittenberg College one year and then graduated from the Ohio State College of Engineering in 1923 with a degree in electrical engineering. After college he spent several years as an engineer in St. Louis, Cleveland, and Muskegon, Michigan. At one time he was plant superintendent of Springfield Metallic Casket Co., Inc., and also was a wholesale salesman for the firm. He founded the Ohio Casket Co. in 1935 but sold it at the end of the war.
He started Allen Tool and Manufacturing in 1938 with his wife and one employee. By 1941 Mr. Allen was employing ten persons. Then, with World War II in progress, the business expanded rapidly. By 1943 there were 750 employees, and the company was known as the largest manufacturer of airplane jigs and fixtures in the world. There were branch offices in St. Louis, Evansville, Indiana, and Atlanta, Georgia. After the war the company was reorganized and became known as Allen Tool Co., however lack of business caused its demise in 1958. It was then Mr. Allen went about purchasing plants and properties, renovating, and either selling or leasing them. He called his new enterprise Allen Industries, Inc..
Mr. Allen had, along with his scientific know-how, a whimsical touch to which he gave free rein at times. "Part of my business," he said, "is a certain amount of showmanship, combined with the ability to sell, whether it's products or ideas." Mr. Allen also had this to say: "There is no royal road to success, and no formula for it. What makes one person successful may never affect a second. However, if you make the most of what you have to work with, and your abilities happen to click, your chances of success are good."

Alfred Rust FULTON [Parents] 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 was born on 28 Nov 1834 in Franklin Twp, Adams County, Ohio. He married Lydia Ruth POTTS on 7 Nov 1867 in Louden, Adams, Ohio. He died on 15 Jan 1904 and was buried in Louden ME Church Cemetery.

Biographical Sketch:
Alfred Rust Fulton was born in Franklin Township, Adams County, Ohio, on November 28, 1834. His father, David Fulton, and his mother, Phoebe Gibson, were both natives of Loudon County, Virginia, and resided near Upperville. They came to Ohio in 1833. At that time they had four children, sons. Alfred and two daughters were born in Ohio.
Alfred obtained his education in the common schools and was brought up to be a farmer. He was one of the few young men of Adams County who never taught school. He enlisted in Company E, First Ohio Heavy Artillery, August 22, 1862, and served until June 20, 1865. This service was upon his conscience, as has been everything in his life.
On November 7, 1867, he was married to Miss Lydia Potts of Marble Furnace, a daughter of Samuel Potts. They have three children, sons: Thomas Clarence, who married Miss Jennie Williams and resides in Loudon; Charles Gibson, formerly a teacher but now a clerk in an iron ore establishment at Sparta, Minn.; Homer Clayton, a lawyer in Duluth, Minn.
Mr. Fulton's father was a Whig and Republican, and Alfred has always been a Republican. He is a member of the Methodist Church in Loudon and lives his faith every day. He owns and cultivates over five hundred acres of good land, and everything about him has an air of care and thrift. His word is as good as his bond and the latter is redeemable in gold on demand at any time. Mr. Fulton has acquired a competence and knows how to enjoy it. He has a pleasant home where he is surrounded by all the comforts of life and can spend the days of his old age in peace. No man stands higher in the esteem of his neighbors and the public, and his life and character entitle him to this estimate. If good works would send any one to Heaven, Mr. Fulton is sure of it, but his good works all proceed from principle and from a sense of Christian duty and obligation.
