William Grant Cole (more commonly known as Grant Cole) was the youngest of the three surviving sons of George Washington Cole and Prudence Alford Cole. He was born April 19, 1863, on the pioneer Cole farm northwest of the city of Portsmouth in Scioto County, Ohio.
As a young man, he worked on the family farm, although some of his time was spent in the city. He married Mary Arnold Cole of Rushtown on October 5, 1884. They became parents of one son, Raymond, and five daughters: Mrs. Minnie Bullock, Mrs. Lydia Morris, Mrs. Catherine Charlton, and Mrs. Marjorie Martin. Their oldest daughter, Prudence Cole Slawson, died in early adulthood.
Grant Cole died December 16, 1932, at age 69 and was buried in the Portsmouth Greenlawn Cemetery. His wife Mary (born November 2, 1860) died November 20, 1948 at age 88.Obituary printed in a Portsmouth, Ohio, newspaper on December 17, 1932:
William Grant Cole, 69, well-known resident of Cole's Park, West Side, who for many years has conducted Grant's cabin on the West side road near Cole's Park, died at his home Friday night at 8:05 o'clock following an illness of three weeks. He had not been in the best of health for some time, and his death was due to complications.
Mr. Cole was born in Scioto county on April 19, 1863, and was the son of George W. and Prudence Cole, pioneer residents of this county. He was married to Mrs. Mary Cole who, with a son, Raymond, and the following daughters, Mrs. Minnie Bullock and Mrs. Lydia Morris, of Portsmouth, and Mrs. Catherine Charlton and Mrs. Marjorie Martin, of Cole's park, survive. He also leaves two brothers, George Cole, of Hollister, Calif., and Silas Cole, of Cole's park.
Funeral services for Mr. Cole will be held at Emrick funeral home Monday at 2 p.m.. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery.

Mrs. Mary C. Cole, 88, of 1525 Seventh St, better known to her friends as Aunt Mollie, died at 4 a.m. today in Portsmouth General hospital following a six-week illness of complications.
Mrs. Cole was born Nov. 2, 1860, at Rushtown, a daughter of George W. and Eliza Holt Arnold. She married to William Grant Cole, October 5, 1884, and spent most of her married life in Portsmouth. Her husband preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 1932.
Surviving are five children, Mrs. Lydia Morris of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Marjorie Martin of Rushtown, Mrs. Minnie Bullock, Mrs. Kathryn Charlton and Raymond Cole, all at home; a sister, Mrs. Joseph Doll, 1916 Robinson Ave; a brother, John K. Arnold of Ashville; four grandchildren, one of which is Cpl. Jack E. Charlton of Station Side, Calif.; four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Cole was a member of Rushtown Baptist church in her early life. She attended Trinity church and Bible class while in Portsmouth.

Amos Spencer COLE [Parents] 1, 2 was born 19 Oct 1857 in Scioto County, Ohio. He married Mary Jane FRITTS on 2 Jan 1883 in Portsmouth, Scioto, Ohio. Amos died on 3 Aug 1952 in Portsmouth, Scioto, Ohio. He was laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery, Portsmouth.

Amos Spencer Cole, widely known Scioto County farmer, was found dead Sunday morning at his home at 1408 Franklin Ave. He was 94.
Mr. Cole had been apparently in good health, and he had visited the county fair at Lucasville last week. For years he had operated a farm off Galena Park.
He was born Oct. 19, 1857, a son of Capt. Amos B. Cole and Mrs. Martha Eliza Orme Cole. The family home was on the old Chillicothe Park north of Portsmouth.
Mr. Cole and his wife, the former Mary Jane (Mollie) Fritts, resided for a time at 827 Second Street. Later they resided at Sinton and Second Streets, and after the 1937 flood moved to the Franklin address.
Mrs. Cole passed away in 1941. Mr. Cole, who was the last surviving member of his family, leaves two daughters, Mrs. Margaret E. Simpson of Long Island and Mrs. Ida Bernice Prentis of Lancaster, PA.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Years ago Mr. Cole was among the leading advocates of prohibition here. He was a member of the old Sixth Street Methodist Church and later transferred his membership to Bigelow Methodist Church. Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. today with burial in Greenlawn cemetery.
